Golf Equipment You’ll Need

It is quite easy to go overboard when buying golf equipment. The gadgets and equipment can be overwhelming for a beginner. There are two good reasons not to rush out with an open wallet. The first reason is that a beginner does not need to latest and greatest in the golf world. The second is that you may find you don't really love golf as much as you thought you would - and you don't want to waste tons of money on dust-collecting stuff. Buy only the basics that you need, not all the cool stuff you want.
You really only need the basic golf clubs, being the drivers, wedgers, putters, and irons. Research which club is which and what each is used for. A good golf instruction book or DVD will help you work out which club is used where, and the assistant at your local golfing store will be able to help you choose a good set of clubs that are right for your body type, stance and swing. Consider borrowing clubs until you are sure you're into it. A lot of golf shops will offer secondhand clubs, which is particularly good for beginners. Start with a basic set, and upgrade as you get better. You will also need to make sure your budget can handle it. You will also want a bag for the clubs. Opting for a bag with a trolley could be a good idea if you don't want to hire a cart of a caddy. You can find beginners sets and whatnot from your local golf store.
Whether or not they have cleats, you will need good shoes. Check with your local golf course, as some courses allow cleats and some do not. You are going to be walking miles in these shoes - especially in the beginning - so make sure they are comfortable and fit well. Most golf courses have dress codes. Consider the amount of time you plan to play. You may just need one golf outfit to begin.
There are many rules, so a new rule book is a must. Learning the rules and etiquette of the game is vital, so consider getting a book on these too.
You must also buy golf balls. Beginners shouldn't have to buy the most expensive golf balls they can. Not only will their technology be wasted on you until you have improved your game, you are likely to lose many of them in the first few months of playing - rather lose the cheap balls than the pricey ones. You also should invest in tees, towels, a pencil, and a green marker.
Other gadgets aren't necessary. There are many golf 'toys' available - very few of them are really necessary to play the game, and even fewer of them make you play better!
