Almost everyone understands that you must exercise to maintain good physical health, nonetheless countless people simply have no desire to exercise. Most people do not like the idea of just doing exercise to get in shape as it becomes a dull routine. So they look for ideas about a sport to take up to keep in shape, but if you are older or in your prime, you maybe should not be considering taking up triathlons or marathons. Golf, though, is a sport that can cater to those both male or female, and young or old.

Playing Golf as a Sport to Keep Healthy

As a sport, golf is fairly easy to get into in the sense that you do not have to prepare for weeks to participate - as in a triathlon. Once you have been playing golf for a while, you will find that it is very pleasurable and fun. For these reasons, golf has emerged as a sport that provides those many formerly inactive folk with a good excuse to get up and get started with some exercise.

From the Outset

At the start it is best to start playing shorter golf courses, like 9-hole courses, until you can improve your overall physical abilities to let you to be able to handle the physical requirements for a full golf course. As we are talking about golf as a sport, we have to reject the use of golf carts as this defeats the benefits of golf to get fit. It may turn out that for your first few games you can only manage a handful of the holes. This may seem disappointing but by continuously playing, you will be able to increase your stamina and strength to allow you to walk and play a full course.

In general, golf is somewhat a good sport for allowing you to slowly break into an exercise schedule. When you first start golf you will be taking golf lessons which will allow you to start off slowly by working on your swing. You will start to develop your golf muscles and your flexibility at the same time you develop your golf swing.

Although some folks tell you that you can play golf when you are unfit or over-weight, this is not correct. True, you could ride around in a golf cart and get out to take a rigid swing to move the ball a little distance along the fairway, but this is not what golf is about.
