How To Cure That Golf Duck Hook in 4 Easy Steps

Posted by Brayden Fisher under: Golf .

In this lesson we are going to focus on "How To Cure That Golf Duck Hook". If you have a bad golf hook that is adding a lot of extra strokes to your game you know how frustrating they can be. While most people out there are slicing the ball, you have the opposite problem and are playing on the other side of the fairway.

The good news is that the golf hook is not difficult to cure. Implement these 4 golf tips and your golf hook will be cured in no time. In order to correct the golf hook you need to make sure you swing the club from the outside in.

1. Loosen Your Grip - Playing with a grip that is too strong is common among people who hook the ball. If you simply rotate your hands around the grip towards the target, it will make it much more difficult for the face of the club to be "closed" at impact. Now don't take this tip too far, you need to test each grip to see which works best for you. If you are certain that you are playing with a weak grip then move on to the next tip.

2. Set the ball forward in your stance - Players who have a golf slice tend to position the ball forward in their stance. Since we hook the ball, this wouldn't be a bad thing for us to do. So, let's copy them. (It doesn't matter if you have a slice or a hook, if you want to correct it, the first thing you should do is learn how to do the opposite.) Setting the ball forward in your golf stance will get you well on you way to curing that nasty hook.

3. Aim to the left of the target (or to the right for left handed golfers) - In order to put that clockwise rotation on the ball that you want, you need to start with an open stance to the target. Implement this easy tip. Open your stance a little bit, and swing along the line of your shoulders.

4. Make sure that you are finishing with your weight on your forward foot - This is the single best solution for the hook. If you hook the ball, chances are that you finish with some of your weight still on your back foot. This causes you to come around the ball with a closed clubface. This is the number one cause of the deadly snap-hook. Finish with all of your weight forward, and you'll never experience it.
